LOXAM’s carbon trajectory has been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), making the Group the first equipment rental company to obtain this certification.
LOXAM, a leading French European company, and the 4th largest construction equipment rental company in the world, is pleased to announce that its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction trajectory has been validated by the Science Based Targets (SBTi) initiative. The Group therefore becomes the first equipment rental company to obtain this certification.
Established in 2015 as a partnership between the Carbon Disclosure Project, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and WWF, the SBTi defines and promotes best practices in reducing GHG emissions, in line with the latest scientific research. A team of independent experts assesses the reduction targets set by companies against strict criteria to determine whether they are compatible with limiting global warming to 1.5°C, as established in the Paris Climate Agreement.
This validation confirms the relevance of LOXAM’s proactive environmental strategy, launched in 2019. The Group is committed to reducing by 50% its Scopes 1 and 2 emissions, corresponding to emissions from its buildings and its internal fleet of vehicles, and by 30% its Scope 3 emissions from the manufacture, transport and use of equipment made available to its customers.
To reach these targets by 2030, LOXAM has started a very specific action plan, supplying its branches with energy from renewable sources as 50% of sites are now supplied with green electricity, electrification of light company vehicles, decarbonisation of its transport logistics optimizing rounds and using natural gas-powered lorries, and massive investment in low-emission equipment (electric, hybrid, gas and hydrogen equipment). The new LOXGREEN service supports customers in making their transition by providing advice and turnkey solutions for choosing low-emission equipment and associated recharging modes, staff training and carbon footprint calculation…. Several dozen low-carbon projects have been completed in France and abroad by 2023.
Alice Hénault, Group Strategy and Development Director at LOXAM, comments: “We are delighted that Science Based Targets initiative has confirmed the relevance of our environmental policy, fully in line with the Paris Climate Agreement. LOXAM has supported this initiative from the very beginning, in 2021, because we wanted to place our ambitions within a recognised international framework, a guarantee of sincerity and transparency. We are fully committed to continuing our efforts, with our ecosystem of customers and suppliers, to achieve our targets.”.
