The ESG research methodology is based on universally recognised standards and norms established by international organisations such as the UN, the ILO and the OECD.

The sustainability ratings agency V.E. assessed the Loxam CSR policy in its entirety, taking into consideration the following factors: • Social (social dialogue, health, safety, career management, etc.), • Societal (human rights, contribution to the public interest, etc.), • Environmental (environmental strategy, reduced resource consumption, transport optimisation, etc.), • Business ethics and governance (anti-bribery and corruption, control of supply chain, business transparency, etc.). For each factor, a 360° audit on the strategies deployed, the resources used and the results obtained was conducted by the team of experts and analysts appointed for the task. Several of Loxam’s strengths were once again brought to light by the assessment (environmental strategy, robustness of its occupational safety management system, quality of social dialogue, etc.). At the end of the process, Loxam obtained first place among equipment rental companies for its sustainability performance. The Group’s CSR policy is based on a dynamic of co-innovation with its partners to progress together.

MULTIPLE EXAMPLES TO EMBODY THIS DYNAMIC

First, in the field of safety, the Innovation and Safety Meetings (Rencontres de l’Innovation et de la Sécurité), an annual gathering of several hundred clients, suppliers, partners and stakeholders from construction and industry, foster sharing and innovation. Following on from the previous editions, the 2020 event brought to the fore several significant breakthroughs, including the bionic glove, the result of a co-innovation process with Eiffage, and the Loxsafe safety pack (view the video here), deployed on our telehandlers in association with Bouygues Construction and Manitou. These meetings generate many benefits, as emphasised by Peter Douglas, CEO of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF): “The Loxam Group put safety at the forefront of everything they do. From keeping their people safe and giving them a good safe working environment to flourish in to keeping their customers safe by offering the latest plant and access equipment along with their unrivalled selection of safety enhancing attachments. Safety is driven into all employees from the top down. As a very active IPAF member, Loxam are responsible for training more MEWP operators each year than any other company in the world, thus making the Powered access industry a safer place.

On social and societal issues, Loxam has continued its drive to promote the employment of young people by making extensive use of apprenticeship programmes (3.6% of the workforce are block release trainees, a record figure in 2020 despite the Covid crisis) and through its support of Worldskills, formerly known as IVTO, the largest competition in the world open to young professionals. Moreover, in its desire to engage its entire supply chain in a positive-impact and responsible dynamic, Loxam is today stepping up its commitment to a responsible procurement policy through a recently-signed partnership with “Les Canaux”, a charity specialising in matching up sustainability-aware companies and organisations from the social and inclusive economy. “The Les Canaux community is delighted to be initiating this partnership with Loxam! There are very many opportunities for collaboration with local and community support enterprises across all the Group’s disciplines. By drawing on the strength of its network and its territorial coverage, we are eager to support Loxam in implementing a responsible, exemplary and virtuous procurement policy,” adds Christophe Divi, Director of Supportive Procurement.

Finally, in the area of the environment, Loxam is making massive investments in “low emission’ equipment, as illustrated in the LoxGreen range and its recent partnership with EODev which accelerates innovation relating to hydrogen so that later this year, the first tests can be performed on hydrogen-fuelled power generators offered for hire. Loxam’s commitment to renewable energy can also be seen in the contract that it signed recently with EDF for the supply of 100% biomethane produced in France to all its gas-heated branches. This contract will help cut the emissions generated by the heating of these facilities by 80%. These commitments are all initiatives which contribute to the reduction in Loxam’s greenhouse gas emissions, as observed by César Dugast, Consultant at the firm Carbone4 which recently advised Loxam: ‘We are delighted to have assisted Loxam in calculating its greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain, together with the emissions avoided thanks to their low-carbon products and services. In their desire to make themselves the artisans of French carbon neutrality, Loxam’s teams also wished to set an emission reduction target that is compatible with French ambitions, and have begun to formulate an ambitious action plan to attain this target.” The Group will publish the pathway and objectives associated with this approach in the coming weeks. These initiatives are part of Loxam’s ongoing CSR policy and further support its leadership in the equipment rental sector on these subjects. The Group is also the first equipment rental company in the world to hold ISO 45001 certification (occupational health and safety) across its entire network of branches. Half of its powered access fleet, or 30,000 machines, run on electricity, and this transformation is still ongoing with 94% of investment channelled towards low emission machines or those meeting the latest European ‘Stage V’ standard.

About Loxam

N° 1 in Europe and n° 4 worldwide, LOXAM is the market leader for the rental of equipment and tools for building and public works, industry, landscaping and services.
